Competition between R.A.F. Halton and The London Clubs in 1927

The Alwyn Greenhalgh album from whence these photographs come states that the occasion was at Halton BUT from an article written by Noel Barker it seems possible that the venue was Wimbledon Common. Would The Royal Air Force ever have allowed the grass to become so unkempt?
