Richard Trevithick

Richard Trevithick was the Great, Great ... Grandson of the Famous Cornish Engineer of the same name. Amongst many superb Model Engineers of his time Richard Trevithick ranked very highly indeed. Many of the pictures that I have come from an album compiled by another well known modeller, Denis Fairlie, who was a great family friend of Trevithick. You will find that Trevithick accompanied the famous 1936 British Wakefield Team, of which Denis was a member, to America but whether this was in an official capacity or not is not known to me. Other than a statement to the effect that they are of Trevithick's creations, most of the photographs are not captioned, simply stating that Trevithick produced the item.

Compressed Air Aircraft 1 - pic 1

Picture
These three pictures have no further information associated with them but subsequent photographs may well be of this machine and its motor. It is almost certain that all the motors shown were constructed, and designed by Trevithick except where noted.

3-Cylinder Compressed Air Motor

Picture
Constructed by Trevithick, this is almost certainly the motor associated with the aircraft shown.

Fuselage/Air Reservoir 2

Picture
Close inspection of the motor suggests this is either from a different model or that a different engine is fitted.

Left to Right, M.R. Knight, R.J. Trevithick, R.E. Gustine and A.E. Jones. Trevithick was Chairman of T.M.A.C., Knight was Assistant Hon. Secretary, Gustine was Organising Secretary and Jones was Hon. Secretary. Knight, Trevithick and Jones were hugely influential in the early days of model aviation.

As yet I have not discovered any more information about this beautiful aircraft. Perhaps SOMEONE has a copy of the 'Model Engineer' magazine that featured it?

I'm not an engine specialist so this may not be a Brown Junior. 'CLICK' on any picture to enlarge.

This will have been constructed by Trevithick and can be seen mounted in the model above.
